United will launch its first nonstop route from Denver to Rome on May 1 and September 24, 2025, as part of its international network development.
DENVER- United Airlines (UA), based in Chicago, has announced eight new flights from Denver International Airport (DEN) to improve regional connectivity.
Notably, this expansion includes United’s first-ever nonstop flight from Denver to Rome (FCO), bolstering Denver’s status as a vital hub in United’s network.
United Airlines Denver Routes
With these additions, United will offer more than 160 domestic and 20 international destinations from Denver. This expansion underscores United’s commitment to providing more options to travelers while preserving its dominant position as the carrier serving the most destinations from Denver.
The airline intends to launch seven domestic routes and one overseas route. These flights will commence in 2025, and tickets can be purchased starting now.

United’s expansion complements Denver’s rising reputation as a worldwide travel center.
United is the only airline that serves North Bend, Redding, Regina, and Wilmington. The airline will compete with Allegiant Air (G4) on the Peoria route, as well as Southwest Airlines (WN) and Frontier Airlines (F9) on flights to Buffalo and Pensacola.
United Denver to Rome Flight

The Boeing 787-9 will fly from Denver International Airport (DEN) to Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO). The daily flights will have more than 250 seats, including 48 lie-flat Polaris business class seats.
The Denver-to-Rome route spans 5,563 miles (8,952 KM), with a flight time of approximately 10.5 hours, providing a direct link between the Rocky Mountains and the Italian capital for the summer season.
Denver is Gearing up for Busy Travel
Denver International Airport (DEN) is preparing for a busy Christmas season, with over 811,000 travelers scheduled to pass through TSA checkpoints from Thursday, December 19, to Sunday, December 29, 2024.
This marks a 7.95% increase over the same period in 2023. The busiest travel days are projected to be December 20 and 27, with 83,307 people being scanned on Dec. 27 alone.
For context, the busiest travel days at DEN so far in 2024 have been July 7, with a record 93,591 passengers, followed by July 21, with 89,421 passengers, and August 1, with 87,472 screening.
To add to the holiday spirit, DEN is hosting live piano music in the arrivals area of the Great Hall from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through December 22. Carolers will cruise the concourses until December 23, performing at various times.
Travelers can also stop by “Santa’s Layover Lounge,” a holiday-themed pop-up bar on Concourse B. The club is open everyday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. until January 6, 2025, and offers handcrafted Christmas drinks, a hot chocolate bar, festive food selections, and surprise appearances by Santa Claus.
Passengers should arrive at least two hours before flight to enable enough time to check bags, navigate security, and reach their gates. Peak hours may result in lengthier security queues, such as 3 a.m. to 4:30 a.m., 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Travel Tips
TSA Checkpoints and PreCheck Access
The West Security Checkpoint on Level 6, Northwest corner of the terminal, is the main checkpoint for TSA PreCheck passengers. It is open from 4 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. daily.
- TSA PreCheck: Enter at West Security 3, near Door 600.
- CLEAR PreCheck customers: A CLEAR lane is provided at West Security 3 for those who have both CLEAR and TSA PreCheck. Customers carrying just CLEAR must use the South Security checkpoint.
- Accessibility, Premium, Employee, and Military Lane: West Security 2, near Door 606.
- Standard Screening: Enter at West Security 1.
- DEN RESERVE Program: Passengers can make reservations up to 14 days in advance to reduce wait times. Reservations are accepted at West Security 2 near Door 606 between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.The checkpoint also has advanced technology that allows passengers to leave liquids and laptops in their luggage.
The South Security Checkpoint on Level 5 in the South Terminal is the primary checkpoint for standard screening. It is open from 3 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily.
- Standard Screening: Main checkpoint for travelers without PreCheck.
- TSA PreCheck: Four dedicated lanes are open from 4 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. near Baggage Claim 7. Pre-check travelers arriving after 10 p.m. can use this checkpoint for speedier screening.
- CLEAR Standard Customers: A separate CLEAR lane is available for regular screening. Customers having both CLEAR and TSA PreCheck must use the dedicated West Security lane from 4 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
