IndiGo’s emphasis on Bengaluru as a main hub guarantees improved connectivity for travellers as it keeps adding new locations and greater frequencies to current cities.

BENGALURU- With new flights to its vast network, India’s top LCC IndiGo Airlines (6E) has once more enhanced its visibility at Kempegowda International Airport (BLR), Bengaluru. This growth confirms the airline’s presence in India’s second biggest Hub following Delhi (DEL).

With the most recent expansions, IndiGo now links Bengaluru (BLR) with a vast network to other areas of the nation and overseas. For the airline’s connectivity from the city, it marks a turning point in and itself.

IndiGo New Flights from Bengaluru

IndiGo’s network from Bengaluru set new records with the inclusion of two new routes on December 31, 2024.

The first addition was the inauguration of flights to Ayodhya (AYJ), IndiGo’s first direct connection between Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) and the city. IndiGo (6E) presently connects five major Indian cities to Ayodhya (AYJ), including Delhi (DEL), Mumbai (BOM), and Hyderabad (HYD), among others.

The second inclusion was the restart of flights to Gorakhpur (GOP). IndiGo had previously operated the Bengaluru-Gorakhpur route before halting operations due to the epidemic. After nearly five years, the airline has restored this route to meet the growing demand for travel to and from the city.

These new additions have increased the airline’s network coverage from 78 to 80 destinations departing Kempegowda International Airport.

IndiGo has achieved a tremendous milestone in its Bengaluru base, now providing nonstop flights to an impressive 80 locations. 67 of these are domestic destinations, with the remaining 13 overseas.

A Strategic Hub in South India

Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) is not just an important gateway to South India, but also a crucial center for IndiGo’s operations. The airline’s expanding network from Bengaluru (BLR) underscores the city’s importance as a hub for business and tourism.

This is clearly reflected in the airline’s network from Bengaluru (BLR). The airline offers flights to a few distinct overseas destinations.

Some of these places include Bali (DPS), Mauritius (MRU), and Langkawi (LGK). These destinations primarily rely on transfer passengers arriving from other regions of the country.

Bengaluru Airport (BLR) has also reached a milestone, having handled more than 40 million passengers for the first time in CY2024, which runs from January to December 2024. This indicates that the airport has joined the ranks of the major 40 million-plus airports.

BIAL (Bangalore International Airport Limited) executives predict the airport will handle more than 42 million passengers in FY25, which runs from April 2024 to March 2025.

IndiGo’s Journey at Bengaluru in 2024

Until recently, IndiGo (6E) had a minor presence in overseas markets at Bengaluru Airport (BLR). As a result, Bengaluru ranked sixth among international flights operated by IndiGo (6E). IndiGo (6E) operated more foreign flights from airports such as Hyderabad (HYD), Chennai (MAA), and even Kochi (COK).

The airline served two Gulf cities: Dubai (DXB) and Doha (DOH), two South Asian cities: Colombo (CMB) and Male (MLE), and two Southeast Asian airports: Bangkok (BKK) and Singapore (SIN).

However, in an unexpected move, the airline announced nine new international flights from Bengaluru (BLR). The airline boosted daily departures from approximately six till February 2024 to fifteen by December 2024. This is an astounding 150% increase in IndiGo flights.

The airline also expanded the number of destinations offered from Bengaluru (BLR). From six till February 2024, and thirteen in December 2024. The airline network at Bengaluru (BLR) increased by more than 115%.

IndiGo (6E) now connects Bengaluru (BLR) to four Gulf cities: Dubai (DXB), Abu Dhabi (AUH), Doha (DOH), and Jeddah (JED), two South Asian cities: Colombo (CMB) and Male (MLE), and six South East Asian cities: Bangkok (BKK), Phuket (HKT), Langkawi (LGK), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Singapore (SIN), and Denpasar-Bali (DPS). The airline also operates flights from Bengaluru (BLR) to Mauritius (MRU).

The significance of this development is clear in the fact that Bengaluru Airport (BLR) is now IndiGo’s (6E) third largest base in terms of foreign flights, trailing only Delhi (DEL) and Mumbai (BOM), a stunning jump from sixth to third place.

Future Destinations and Routes

As IndiGo adds new destinations and frequency to current locations, its emphasis on Bengaluru as a major hub provides better connectivity for passengers. With 80 destinations now on its roster, the airline is likely to maintain its growth trajectory, providing more chances for seamless travel in the future.

This milestone solidifies Kempegowda International Airport’s status as one of the country’s busiest and best-connected airports. IndiGo’s operations are projected to expand, allowing it to serve an even wider range of locations from Bengaluru.

According to AviationA2Z sources, IndiGo (6E) is looking at new international routes, including Bengaluru (BLR) to Nairobi (NBO) and Bengaluru (BLR) to Surat Thani (URT) in Thailand.

Furthermore, the airline is examining Seychelles (SEZ) as a potential destination, with Bengaluru (BLR) once again emerging as a strong contender for the launch.

2025 promises to be an exciting year for airports around the country, with all eyes on Bengaluru Airport’s continued rise to new heights.
