What is this stimulus check and how does it work?

The first thing to understand is that not everyone is qualified for this assistance. Individuals receive stimulus checks based on a set of criteria, the first of which is that their income is less than 200% of the federal poverty threshold.

Furthermore, this is not a universal assistance program. As a trial program, it will initially be delivered to 200 Sacramento County families who match these requirements.

The initial deposit was made on December 15 and will continue monthly, on the 15th of each month, until the final payment on November 15, 2025.

The payout, as previously stated, is $725 and has a unique feature that many aid programs lack: no spending restrictions. That is, the beneficiary can use the money to cover other expenses, rather than just food, as is the case with programs like SNAP.

What is this program called?

The full name of this program is the Sacramento First Family Economic Support Pilot Program. The program is financed by a grant from the California Department of Social Services to the Sacramento County Department of Child, Family, and Adult Services, which will run it with a local nonprofit group.

A critical component is that this payment may be suspended if the family relocates outside of Sacramento County, California, or if the criteria for its approval are no longer met. Finally, only families with dependents living in one of the following ZIP codes will be considered: 95815, 95821, 95823, 95825, 95828, and 95838.
