Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is taking a significant step in its fleet modernization plans by preparing its pilots to operate the advanced Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Training will be conducted using a state-of-the-art A350 full-flight simulator at Lufthansa Aviation Training Switzerland (LAT CH) in Opfikon, near Zurich Airport.
Pilot Training for the Airbus A350
SWISS will launch its Airbus A350 pilot training program in February. The program is essential as the airline prepares for the arrival of its first A350-900, scheduled to enter service in mid-2025. Over 50 pilots will be trained this year, with an expanded training target of 90 pilots annually starting in 2026.

- Location: Training will take place at LAT CH’s Opfikon facility, equipped with the latest A350 simulator.

SWISS will also begin training its cabin crew for A350 operations in March 2025. To support this initiative, LAT CH has procured specialized mock-ups and training equipment for cabin crew preparation.
- Goal: Train approximately 1,800 cabin crew members by the end of 2025.
- Training Modules: Cabin crew members will be trained in emergency procedures, safety protocols, and customer service tailored for the A350.
This parallel training ensures that both cockpit and cabin crews are well-prepared for the smooth introduction of the A350 into service.
Fleet Modernization with the Airbus A350-900
As part of its long-term strategy, SWISS is replacing its aging Airbus A340-300 fleet with ten newly ordered A350-900s. The first aircraft is currently under construction at Airbus’s manufacturing plant in Toulouse, France, and delivery is expected by mid-2025.
