Indonesia AirAsia has resumed flights between Bali and Darwin, the capital city of Australia’s Northern Territory, as part of the AirAsia Aviation Group’s ongoing expansion in the Asia-Pacific area. Bali, Indonesia’s most visited tourist destination, has been a favorite of Australians for almost 50 years.
AirAsia resumes another successful route
Indonesia AirAsia said Wednesday that when it starts operating flights between Bali and Darwin again on March 22, 2025, it will be reestablishing ties between the Northern Territory and Asia. With over 1,000 seats per week and three weekly operations on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the service will significantly increase tourism and the local economies of both locations.
Arriving at Darwin International Airport (DRW) at 15:55, Indonesia AirAsia Flight QZ540 will take off from Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) at 11:40. QZ541, the return flight, is scheduled to depart Darwin at 16:35 and reach Bali at 17:55. An Airbus A320-200, one of the airline’s 31 all-Airbus aircraft, will fly it.
These flights will provide smooth and reasonably priced connection to and from Darwin via Bali, which is currently the airline’s largest hub in terms of aircraft capacity, making travel to other Asian locations easier than ever.
Even though Darwin is the closest Australian city to Asia, direct flights aren’t always available, so when the route reopens in March, locals will find it to be a highly alluring alternative.
Low fares will generate traffic at both ends of this popular route
For as little as AU$300 ($186), passengers flying with Indonesia AirAsia from Darwin may take advantage of smooth connections via Bali to places like Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Hong Kong, and Komodo Island, the home of the Komodo dragon.
Veranita Yosephine, CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, stated that the airline is excited to return to the [Northern] Territory, offering customers in Australia’s Top End more options and value.
“These direct flights will cater to the enduring popularity of Bali as a destination for Australians and offer great low fare connections to over 130 destinations across the AirAsia network. At the same time, millions of guests from across Asia will discover the extraordinary culture, wildlife and natural beauty of Kakadu National Park, Arnhem Land and other iconic locations where the tropics meet the outback.”
Strong demand is waiting for the AirAsia A320s
Indonesia AirAsia operates 31 Airbus A320-200 single-aisle aircraft with 180 seats that are set up in an all-economy configuration, according fleet data from ch-aviation.
With airlines in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Indonesia, the AirAsia Aviation Group has a total fleet of more than 200 aircraft, including the latest models of the Airbus A320neo Family.
Darwin locals have always ranked Bali as their top vacation spot, so when the route reopens in March, there will surely be a high demand. The airline might be adding additional flights soon because it only operates three return flights per week, has a small number of seats to fill, and offers one-way costs as low as AU$189 ($118).
In addition to tourism, the Northern Territory and Indonesia have a long history together, and the route will make it easier for families and business travelers to travel together, increasing the potential for two-way trade.
In order to improve access to northern markets for trade, investment, study, and skilled migration, the Northern Territory Government recently reopened the Office of Asian Relations. The government anticipates that the reintroduction of these flights will assist all of these industries and increase leisure travel to the Top End.
For the fifteenth year in a row, the AirAsia Group of Airlines has been named the Skytrax World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for 2024, among other notable accolades. Additionally, the organization received a seven out of seven rating from Airlineratings.com for upholding the highest international safety standards in 2024.
