PORBANDAR- Two pilots and one crew member were killed when a Coast Guard Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) crashed at Porbandar Airport on Sunday, January 5, 2025. All those involved were immediately sent to the nearest public hospital.

The event follows a similar tragedy two months ago, when another Coast Guard helicopter crashed in the water. The Coast Guard has not issued an official statement on the recent tragedy.

On Sunday, an Indian Coast Guard Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv crashed during a regular training mission in Porbandar, Gujarat.

The helicopter crashed due to technical difficulties, and there were two pilots and one other person on board at the time. According to reports, all three people died in the incident.

Authorities have yet to reveal details about casualties or the extent of any injuries. An inquiry has been begun to discover the exact cause of the technical failure and to prevent future incidents.

The emergency team has reached the site and is investigating the accident.

Similar Incident

In a similar event in September 2024, a Coast Guard Dhruv helicopter crashed into the Arabian Sea in Porbandar while on a medical evacuation mission.

The aircraft had been responding to an emergency on the Indian-flagged motor tanker Hari Leela, which was about 45 kilometers from the coast.

Despite its proximity to the coast, the chopper was forced to ditch into the sea after encountering problems. This was a precautionary action adopted after Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s (HAL) fleet of 16 helicopters had been grounded.
