A passenger stated, ‘I’m on this flight; the flight attendants in Polaris reported he had a stroke. We’re sitting on the ground at Boston Airport.
BOSTON- On December 22, 2024, a United Airlines aircraft from Brussels (BRU) to Washington Dulles (IAD) was diverted to Boston Logan Airport (BOS) due to a medical emergency.
According to the current schedule, United Airlines runs a daily trip from Washington to Brussels, Belgium.
United Flight Attendant Stroke
A Reddit member who was a passenger on United Flight UA951 reported the incident. The user wrote, ‘I’m on a plane.
The French-speaking flight attendant (Brussels to Dulles) became ill (unknown cause) and had to be evacuated. We are currently fuelling, and a passenger is making all the announcements in French.
Another passenger on the flight commented on the post, writing, ‘I’m on this flight- the flight attendants in Polaris claimed he had a stroke. We’re sitting on the ground at Boston Airport.
FlightRadar24 data shows that a United Airlines flight took off from Brussels at 11:10 AM UTC. After almost seven hours in the air, the flight attendant informed the cockpit crew that one of the attendants may have suffered a stroke.
Following this, the flight crew chose to divert to a neighboring large airport. The plane safely landed at Boston Logan at 6:45 p.m. UTC. The airplane taxied to an isolated location near Terminal E.
One person remarked, ‘Well, if you need to divert someone for a medical emergency, Boston is the finest spot to do so. BMC is certainly closer via the TWT, and while it’s an excellent facility, hopefully they went to Massachusetts General facility [MGH], which is one of the greatest in the world.
Some people prayed for the crew’s recovery and well-being, while others stated that in such a case, prompt medical attention is critical to preserving lives.
Flight Reached its Destination with 2-Hour
The flight left Boston at 8:27 PM and arrived in Washington Dulles at 9:39 PM UTC (4:39 PM local time).
The flight was flown by a 7.8-year-old Boeing 777-300ER registered N2737U. The aircraft has 350 seats, including 60 United Polaris open-suite suites, 24 recliner-style United Premium Plus seats, and 266 Economy Class seats, 62 of which are Economy Plus seats with more legroom.
However, the exact number of people on the airplane is uncertain.
What is Stroke and Why it Occur?
A stroke is similar to a heart attack in that it occurs when blood flow to a portion of your brain is disturbed, either due to a blocked blood artery or bleeding in the brain. Strokes are a medical emergency, and seeking care right once is critical to avoiding serious injury or even death.
To recognize the signs of a stroke, remember to BE FAST:
- B: Balance: Is there a sudden loss of balance or coordination?
- E: Eyes – Is there sudden vision loss or double vision in one or both eyes?
- F: Face – Ask the person to smile. Does one side of their face droop?
- A: Arms – Ask them to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
- S: Speech – Listen for slurred or confused speech. Are they struggling to find the right words?
- T: Time – Act fast! Call for help immediately and note when symptoms began to guide treatment.
Strokes are extremely prevalent. They are the second biggest cause of death worldwide, and the fifth in the United States. They are also a major source of impairment around the world, thus raising awareness and taking immediate action is critical.
A similar medical problem occurred the same day on Zurich (ZRH) to Chicago (ORD) aircraft UA12, when the pilot became ill. In addition, a flight attendant was badly injured aboard the United flight UA3 from Chicago to Zurich.
