Cessna CitationJet crashed in Brazil.
On Thursday, January 9th, a light business jet attempted to land at Gastao Madeira State Airport (UBT) in Ubatuba, São Paulo State, Brazil. However, while landing, the aircraft lost control and rolled off the end of the runway.
Rede Voa, a private airport administration consortium that owns the airport where the event occurred, stated that “the weather conditions were degraded, with rain and a wet runway.”
The plane took off from Mineiros Municipal Airport (SWME) in Goiás, Brazil, on Thursday morning, January 9th.
According to several sources, the aircraft attempted to land at Ubatuba around 11:20 a.m. local time. Following landing, the aircraft slipped off the wet runway and into the adjacent grass. The plane eventually came to rest in the shallow waters of adjacent Baia de Ubatuba.
The crash killed one of the aircraft’s occupants, the pilot. The remaining four passengers on the flight were taken to the hospital.
Three additional people on the ground were hurt. The emergency crew responded immediately to the incident, and the Center for the Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA) was alerted to launch an investigation.
This is the second incident involving private aviation in Brazil in recent weeks. In late December, a Piper PA-42 Cheyenne crashed in Gramado, Brazil, near Canela Airport (CEL). The pilot and all nine passengers died as a result of the incident.
It also started fires that spread throughout the town, resulting in numerous injuries and extensive damage to the resort.
Regarding the Cessna CJ1 involved in the incident.
The Cessna CitationJet crashed early Thursday morning. This aircraft was a Cessna CJ1+ registered as PR-GFS. This airplane was originally built in 2008.
Cessna’s CitationJet line consists of light business jets, including the CJ1+. In October 1992, the CitationJet received FAA type approval and was released as the company’s first variation. Cessna has since released various variations of this aircraft.
The model 525 type certificate includes the family’s smallest versions. Cessna offered various modifications to the CitationJet, which was originally classified as such.
The original was known as the CJ1, and the CJ1+ was an improvement released in 2005. Cessna eventually introduced the Citation M2 as a substitute in the early 2010s.
The aircraft involved in the Brazil disaster was a Cessna CJ1+. This business jet has a fuselage identical to the Citation II, but with a new supercritical wing and T-tail.
It also has a trailing link undercarriage, and the airframe is primarily built of conventional aluminium alloys. The aircraft is powered by two Williams FJ44 turbofan engines, each producing just under 2,000 pounds of torque. Overall, the Citation CJ1+ performance parameters are as follows:
Length | 42 feet seven inches |
---|---|
Height | 13 feet eleven inches |
Wingspan | 47 feet three inches |
Maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) | 10,700 pounds |
Typical cruise speed | 389 knots (448 miles per hour) |
Range | 1,245 nautical miles (1,432 miles) |
